Ruth Thomas by Ruth Thomas by Russell LevenNovelist and short story writer Ruth Thomas was born in Kent. Her first story collection, Sea Monster Tattoo, was shortlisted for the John Llewellyn Rhys and the Saltire Society First Book Awards, and her second received a Scottish Arts Council Book Award. Several of her stories have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Her writing is characterised by its quiet humour and sharp but sympathetic observation.

Ruth now lives in Edinburgh with her husband and three children. She is about to begin a new post as part-time lecturer in Creative Writing at St Andrew’s University.

Ruth Thomas’s first novel, Things to Make and Mend, received a Good Housekeeping Book Award. Her second novel, The Home Corner, was published in May 2013 by Faber.
